4220.

This is it. Four months and tons of roadblocks consisting of lack of motivation, lack of creativity, and overall lack of interest in this project. At least now, during the last couple weeks, I’ve been powerhousing like mad to create something I’m able to stand behind. Minor tweaking from last week but it’s all for the better. I’m done. At least I think. Now onto the grad show’s final execution and run. No more speed bumps, please!

Crossing this off the to-do list. =)

It’s amazing what a typeface can do. Definitely a good find for my project. scribbage, you’ve saved my project. asap had an influence as well.

And it was a major overhaul. Here’s the link for my current identity and process for the inn.

I’m feeling pretty good…

Stuck again. I’m struggling with this project. And the stress of grad show does not help. Losing interest and motivation isn’t such a good thing.

At least I got some help, site courtesy of Catherine… this helped with some design inspiration. Googling “nicely designed hotel websites” doesn’t have many fruitful results.

Being stuck doesn’t help with progress… Maybe it’s because of the imagery I was provided with, maybe I’m just losing my focus, or maybe this project doesn’t interest me anymore. Either way, this was the product of my stage three… not too happy but at least it’s something I can cross of the list.

After creating SWOTs for the inn, the daycare, and the jeweller, I’ve finalized on the inn. It has the most opportunity for discovery, it seems like I’d have the most fun, and because I know the owners, it’s easy enough for me to get some feedback on my possible three directions.

To sum up my three directions:

Direction one—

- Ad Campaign

- Focusing on Events in Grande Cache and the tying the accommodation to the events

- Targeted towards people who enjoy adventures (20-39)

- Green/blue/earthy colour palette

Direction two—

- Ad Campaign and Branding

- Focusing on activities and the accommodation

- Business plan - the inn offers tours or activity programs rather than partnerships

- Targeted to young families (2-5 people)

- Earthy tones

Direction three:

- Branding

- Activities&Events and the accommodation

- Promotion through the inn aka partnerships

- Young active people

Final Direction:

- Branding

- Activities and the accomodation

- Partnerships with touring companies

- Young active people with or without family

Hopefully, I chose correctly.

I think I’ve decided. But it was with the help of the process of firing off ten ideas that just come up to mind. I have to admit they weren’t all good. In fact, most of them didn’t have much leeway or potential. After feedback from classmates, I’ve decided to go with the rebranding the inn.

Or at least creating an identity for an inn because there isn’t much of a sense of brand identity to begin with. More to come on that later.

Major Project 4220.

The last one. One last four month long project to end four long, but educational years of GDMA. It’ll be bittersweet; and I imagine it’ll be a bit more bitter than sweet seeing as this will be coinciding with the planning and execution of the ultimate Grad Show at the end of April. It’ll be interesting to say the least.

To prepare for four gruelling months, we were advised to plan out or at least have an idea of what we want to tackle as our final major project. For the past couple weeks, I’ve been trying to think of what my topic should be as we are to pick a real-life client and design to their needs.

I’ve narrowed down my options to rebranding an inn, marketing a jeweller, and my third option remains open. Hopefully I can choose my final option soon.

Semester is done. Time to get a job. Start the scrambling.

Just so you know, those are cut up bits of origami paper.

So excited! Martin Freeman in The Hobbit! If only Dawn was cast as an elf that falls for Tim/Bilbo, then it’ll be like Dawn&Tim!

At first I thought that the book cover was blank. It took a scroll back up to see the title.
And I’m in love.
I absolutely am in love with the simplicity of this cover design. The title is debossed in white? or just debossed? Either way, I would love to own this.
I was originally thinking about doing something like this for my project, which I still can do. The only problem is, how do I illustrate that everything (or just the title) is debossed? I’m pretty sure someone mentioned it to me, and in the back of my mind I remember how to make it appear as though it’s debossed, just as of right now, I don’t recall.
Anyway, back to this book cover. In love. The simplicity, the look of purity, and the fact that it calls for a double take for some people are the selling points for me.
I would love to own this, but downside, I’d be too afraid of smudge marks or staining it somehow. But that’s just the clumsy part of me. Maybe I’ll wear gloves when reading to protect the whiteness.

My final redesign of Persuasion. I wanted to keep things very simple and clean. Very crisp text that was easy to read, instead of the blocks of type that was in the original page design.

If the pages were designed like this, I think I would have finished the book by now.  By the way, I purchased the book three years ago. Instead, I’m stuck in the block of type on a page-long paragraph.

892 Ways to Divide a 3x4 Grid

kelleywiedmandesign:

Obsessed, so helpful. Available as PDF…I’m printing this and hanging it in my room.

Since grids were the topic of discussion for our publication design class, thought I’d look up some grids. 3x4 is definitely smaller than our newspaper redesign size, this grid concept can easily be expanded to fit larger sizes.

However, I absolutely could not come up with 892 ways to divide a grid, so this chart is lots of help. When enlarged, I’m guessing there’s more than 892 ways to divide a larger grid. It’s interesting how the most variations on the 3x4 are when it’s divided into 6,7,8, or 9 boxes.

So to sum up it’s a little help on grids or rather lots of help on grids.
